FAQ

What does the Institute do?
Our primary mission is to popularise knowledge of Poland’s language diversity. We support and initiate activities extending to so-called general (literary) Polish language, regional languages (including Kashubian, legally recognised as such), languages of national and ethnic minorities (i.a. German, Ukrainian, Czech, Lithuanian, Karaim and Lemko), dialects, linguistic variations, migrant languages, and the Polish Sign Language.

What is the legal foundation for the Institute’s operations?
Our institution and its activities arise from current legal regulations, Polish and European alike. We operate pursuant to the following legislation: European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, Polish Language Law, National and Ethnic Minorities and Regional Language Law, Law on the Polish Sign Language and Other Communication Measures, and Statutes awarded by the Minister of Culture and Cultural Heritage.

Whom do the Institute’s activities address?
Our recipients include, but are not limited to authors, artists, regionalists, culture animators, non-governmental organisations, scientific institutions, educators and educational institutions, and anyone concerned with promoting linguistic diversity in Poland.
